A highly successful military pageant and carnival in aid of the returned soldiers and Y.M.C.A. field service funds was opened by Sir John Madden at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon. Prior to tho opening a lengthy and well organised procession. headed by the Royal Park Military Band, marched through the streeta of Fitzroy and
Collingwood, starting at the Exhibition Gardens in Nicholson-street. Included in the display were returned soldiers, army and navy veterans, about 1000 cadets and boy scouts, tableaux, decorated motor cars and vehicles, and many humorous characters. The programme was of great length and variety, including racing on draught horses, tug of war matches, athletic display by Christian Brothers' pupils, Highland dancing by Vere-street school, physical exercises by the pupils of the Ladies' Physical College, boxing competitions by prominent professionals, a goal-kicking competition by well-known League players and concluding with an old players' football match, Collingwood v. Fitzroy.

The latter was of particular interest to football enthusiasts, owing to tho number of old-time champions engaged. In the Collingwood team were celebrities such as "Bob" Nash, "Charger" Hailwood, "Charlie" Pannam, "Ed." Drohan, "Rosie" Dummett, "Ted" Rowell. "Percy" Gibb and Lockwood. The Fitzroy eighteen included "Chris" Kiernan, "Tammy" Beacham (sic)¹, "Lou" Barker, "Gerry" Brosnan and Newbound. Collingwood won.
An auction sale was held of an old-fashioned brougham presented by Sir Arthur Snowden, a Victoria carriage, harness lamps, etc. Tlie brougham was sold for £10, the hon. auctioneer (Mr. G. Connor) announcing that it bad been purchased by the Collingwood Cricket Club to take the kit out. The Victoria carriage brought £7 5/

Goal Kicking Competition:— C. Curtis (Collingwood).
Tug of War:— Collingwood beat Fitzroy, Broadmeadow beat Collingwood.
Best dressed character:— Mr. J. Ford (Fashionable Collingwood Lady).
Most original character:— Mr. F. Du Bleu (University Professor).
Best tableau:— H.M.A.S. Collingwood, Tye and Co.,1; Operating Theatre, Collingwood Red Cross, 2.
Best decorated motor car:— Mr. L Cooper.
