Alexandra

After recommencing in Division Two of the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League in 2006 the Rebels showed steady improvement culminating in the 2008 flag. Opposed in the grand final by Thornton Eildon, their conquerors of a fortnight previously in the second semi final, Alexandra displayed greater cohesion and steadiness after half time in accumulating 6 goals to 2 to win by 14 points, 13.8 (86) to 10.12 (72).

Prior to 2006 Alexandra had competed in numerous different competitions over the course of more than a century, claiming a total of a dozen senior grade premierships. One such flag was won in Division Two of the YVMDFL in which the team had previously participated between 1977 and 1985.

Following the promotion achieved in the wake of their 2008 Division Two premiership triumph the Rebels spent the 2009 season in Division One, but they endured a nightmare campaign which produced no wins whatsoever from 18 matches, consigning them to the wooden spoon. They competed for the ensuing nine seasons in Division Two, contesting the finals in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018. By contrast, the 2015 season saw them succumb to the wooden spoon. As of the 2016 season the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League was re-named AFL Yarra Ranges.

The 2019 season brought a radical re-shaping of the local football landscape following the amalgamation of the AFL Yarra Ranges and the South East Football Netball League, forming the three division Outer East Football Netball League.

Competing in the third tier of the new organisation, known as Division Two, the Rebels performed modestly on debut, winning just five of 16 fixtures to finish seventh of nine clubs. The 2o2o season saw the fledgling competition going into recess because of the global coronavirus pandemic.
