Booleroo Melrose Wilmington

Booleroo Melrose Wilmington Football Club (understandably normally abbreviated as ‘BMW’) came into being in 1991 when Booleroo Centre and Wilmington Melrose amalgamated. Both merger partners had been members of the NAFA since 1979. Prior to that they had both competed in the Flinders Football Association.

BMW has twice enjoyed premiership success in recent years but the 2007 season was disappointing as the side managed only 6 wins from 16 minor round matches to finish fifth (of six). There was considerable improvement in 2008 as the Lions got as far as the preliminary final, losing a low scoring affair to Southern Flinders by 37 points.

Both of the Lions’ senior grade flags were claimed in memorably emphatic fashion: in the 2001 grand final they defeated Jamestown Appila by 71 points, 20.6 (126) to 8.7 (55), while four years later they accounted for the grand final challenge of Crystal Brook by an 84 point margin, 21.19 (145) to 9.7 (61).
