Formed in 1983 when the St. Andrew’s Box Hill Football Club amalgamated with Blackburn United, Box Hill North was admitted to D Grade in the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association (ESCFA) the same year. Over the next decade and a half the club twice contested D Grade grand finals, losing to Lower Plenty in 1986, and beating Dandenong West five years later. When the ESCFA merged with the Southern Football League (SFL) in 1993 Box Hill North continued in the new competition until 2002, when it crossed to the VAFA. The Demons have spent their entire time in the VAFA competing in D Section/Division Four.
On the whole, the Demons have tended to struggle, but they did enjoy a good season in 2015, qualifying for the finals and getting as far as a preliminary final clash with eventual premiers Canterbury which they lost by 8 goals. In 2016 Box Hill North dropped back down the list to seventh (out of nine) after managing just 5 wins from their 16 minor round matches.
In 2017 the Demons proved unable to field both senior grade and reserves teams meaning that they were forced to compete in section two of the Club XVIII competition. They enjoyed an excellent season, topping the ladder ahead of the finals and going on to procure the premiership on the strength of a 9.21 (75) to 2.6 (18) grand final annihilation of Chadstone. Upon returning to the mainstream fray in 2018 the Demons struggled somewhat and ended up finishing ninth (of 10) in Division Four, while a year later they succumbed to the indignity of a wooden spoon after managing just two wins from 16 starts.
