Canteen Creek

The Blues were at the centre of a controversy in September 2008 when they looked to have booked their first ever grand final berth thanks to a convincing preliminary final victory over Sporties Spitfires. However, it later emerged that during the third term Canteen Creek had been found to have one man too many on the field, as a result of which, on the instruction of the field umpires, its entire score of 45 points was wiped. No one told the scoreboard attendants, however, and it was not until some time after the match that the confusion was resolved, the scores recalculated, and Sporties declared victors by 7 points. It was a heart-breaking end to a best ever season by a club previously regarded as a chopping block by the other five teams in the AFL Barkly competition.
