Cardross

Formed in 1948, the Cardross Football Club commenced participation in the Sunraysia Football League the same year. In 14 seasons of involvement in this competition the Lions achieved premiership success twice, in 1951 and 1952. The 1962 season saw the side lining up in the Millewa Football League and enjoying a fine season culminating in an 11.12 (78) to 11.9 (75) grand final defeat of Meringur. The following season this success was repeated at the expense of the same opponent by the even narrower margin of a single point. The Lions’ only other MFL flag was won in 1972 although they have been losing grand finalists on several occasions, most recently in 2006 and 2007. Of late they have generally struggled somewhat, finishing fifth in 2013, 2014 and 2015, sixth and last in 2016, fifth once more in 2017 and a distant last in 2018. The 2019 season brought a long overdue improvement in fortune as side qualified for the finals and ultimately finished a highly creditable third.
