Gepps Cross Football Club was formed in 1952 and competed initially in the North Adelaide Football Association after having had an application to join the South Australian Amateur Football League turned down. During its time in the NAFA the closest club came to achieving premiership success were successive runners-up berths in 1957 and 1958. It is grand final nemesis in both seasons was Wingfield.
In 1978 Gepps Cross joined the South Australian Football Association, reaching the grand finals in 1981 and 1982, with the latter year spawning the club’s first ever senior grade premiership. Buoyed by this success the Rams successfully applied to affiliate with The South Australian Amateur Football League in 1984. Competing in A5 Grade, they secured a premiership at the first time of asking. This triumph conferred promotion to A4 Grade, in which the Rams continued to compete until they obtained promotion to A3 Grade by lifting the 1987 premiership.
Over the course of the past two decades Gepps Cross has painstakingly worked its way up through the grades to the SAAFL’s top level, formerly known as A1 Grade, but since renamed division one. The 2008 season saw the Rams finishing third in division one at both senior and reserve grade level.
