Overall Hatherleigh can only boast a modest record of success, but since the turn of the century the club has, for the first time in its history, emerged as a consistently formidable force.
Formed in 1946, Hatherleigh only engaged in social matches during its first season before commencing in the Mid South East Football League the following year. In only its third season in the competition the club won a premiership, but it then had to wait more than half a century before capturing a second, in 2003. The Eagles’ third flag arrived in 2005, while a grand final loss to Tantanoola in 2006 was sandwiched between that and their fourth premiership in 2008, which came after an 18.16 (124) to 15.17 (107) grand final defeat of Glencoe.
