Knox

Knox Football Club was formed in 1980 and spent its first nine seasons competing in the Eastern Suburban Churches Football Association. Between 1980 and 1985 the club was in that competition's E Grade but it spent its final four seasons in D Grade after achieving promotion from E Grade as a losing grand finalist. The club’s official colours during its time in the ESCFA were brown and gold, but they were changed to black and red after it commenced in the Eastern District Football League in 1989.

Over the ensuing two decades the Falcons progressed slowly but steadily through the divisions. They won the premiership of Division Four in only their third season when they overcame the grand final challenge of Heathmont by 19 points. The next nine seasons were spent in Division Three from which they finally escaped, at what was in effect their third attempt, in 2000. In both 1997 and 1999 the Falcons had reached the Division Three grand final, only to lose, and unlike in the ESCFA only the premiers of the division achieved promotion. They finally made their escape in 2000 after a 15.9 (99) to 15.7 (97) grand final defeat of Templestowe.

The Falcons’ stay in Division Two was briefer than their time in the division below, but only by one season. After a number of near misses they claimed promotion in 2007 thanks to a hard fought 6 point grand final victory over South Croydon. Their debut season in the top flight was a creditable one as they managed 8 wins to finish comfortably clear of relegation trouble. All told, their involvement in the EFL's top tier lasted until the end of the 2016 season when they finished last, and were relegated back to Division Two. Their stay at that level was fleeting as they lost just 1 match all season in 2017 en route to a 10.10 (70) to 7.12 (54) grand final defeat of Doncaster East, a result which earned the Falcons promotion back to Division One for 2018. Unhappily, their stay in the top tier only proved to be fleeting as they finished the 2018 season in last place on the ladder.

Knox’s reserves won a Division Two flag in 2004, and a hat trick of Division Three premierships between 1998 and 2000, while the colts finished top of Division One in 2008, Division Two in 1993 and 2005-6-7, and Division Three in 1997.
