North Heidelberg

For more than half a century North Heidelberg has consistently been a force to be reckoned with in the Diamond Valley Football League and its successor competition the Northern Football League. To date, the Bulldogs have claimed eight senior grade premierships, all bar two in the DVFL’s top division, plus a dozen reserve grade and five thirds flags. North Heidelberg's second most recent senior grade premiership triumph came in 2014 in Division Two. Opposed in the grand final by Fitzroy Stars the Bulldogs won quite comfortably in the end by 36 points, 16.18 (114) to 11.12 (78). Promoted as a result of this triumph they found the going tough in Division One in 2015 and slumped to the wooden spoon and with it relegation back to Division Two. They almost made it back to Division One at the first time of asking but lost the 2016 Division Two grand final to Hurstbridge by 11 points. A year later they made amends when, after qualifying for the finals in pole position, they scored comfortable wins over Diamond Creek in both the second semi final and grand final to clinch their second EFL Division Two flag and earn promotion back to Division One where, in 2018, the performed impressively, ultimately getting as far as a losing preliminary final against eventual premiers West Preston Lakeside.
