Nyah Nyah West United

The Demons struggled for many years, at senior grade level at any rate, following their formation in 1978, which came about when local Mid Murray Football League rivals Nyah and Nyah West elected to merge.

In total contrast to the seniors, Nyah Nyah West’s other grades were consistently there or thereabouts during the club’s time in the MMFL, which ended when that competition merged with the Northern and Echuca Football League to form the Central Murray Football League prior to the 1997 season. By that time, the Demons’ reserves had claimed four flags.

Initially, the seniors continued to find life tough in the CMFL, but the 2000 season brought a sudden and dramatic turnaround in fortunes. That year’s grand final saw the Demons overcome Cohuna Kangas by 33 points, 13.15 (93) to 9.6 (60). Twelve months later they went back to back courtesy of a 22 point grand final win over Tyntynder.

Recent seasons have produced mixed fortunes, from the ‘high’ of a losing grand final clash with Kerang in 2016 to the nadir of wooden spoons in 2006, 2009 and 2018.
