After obtaining successive promotions by winning premierships in division four in 2005 and division three in 2006 Payneham NU competed in the South Australian Amateur Football League’s second division for three years. At the end of the 2009 season the club achieved promotion to division one after reaching the division two grand final, which it lost by 8 goals to Broadview.\n\nPrior to the merger Payneham had won a total of seven senior grade SAAFL grand finals, including two in division one. Norwood Union’s record was let noteworthy but the club boasted an excellent junior development programme which is something that the merged club has inherited and profited from.
