Between 1987 and 1989 Rosebury Toorak competed, without achieving premiership success, in the now defunct Western Tasmanian Football Association. After commencing in the North West Football Association in 1990 the Hawks took a few seasons to find their feet before contesting their first grand final in 1996, when they lost by 14 points to Wesley Vale. The club’s inaugural premiership was claimed two years later, with Wesley Vale again providing the grand final opposition, and then in 1998 the Hawks went back to back with a resounding 29.12 (186) to 13.2 (80) grand final defeat of Spreyton. A third straight grand final appearance followed in 2000 but Sheffield proved to have the Hawks’ measure, and since then the club’s fortunes have dipped.
