Stawell has enjoyed fairly consistent success in the Wimmera Football League since the 1930s. Its tally of eight senior grade premierships is surpassed only by Horsham (twenty-five) and Ararat (eleven). Stawell is of course widely known as the venue for Australia’s most prestigious professional foot race, the Stawell Gift, which takes place every Easter at the Warriors’ home ground of Central Park.
Prior to commencing in the Wimmera Football League in 1937 Stawell spent three decades competing in the Wimmera District Football League. The club was consistently there or thereabouts, claiming a total of half a dozen senior grade premierships and regularly contesting the finals in a competition which was generally home to seven or eight clubs.
Of late Stawell have experienced fluctuating fortunes. They finished seventh (of eight) in both 2013 and 2014, fourth in 2015, third in 2016, fifth in 2017 and seventh (of nine) in 2018.
