Sunshine

Sunshine YCW commenced in the YCW Football Association under eighteen competition in 1942. Three years later the club went into recess, eventually reforming in 1959 when an under sixteen team was entered in YCWFA competition. In 1963 the seniors took their bows, and were subsequently successful in claiming premierships in B Grade in 1966 and 1969, and A Grade in 1976. The 1978 season saw the club transferring its allegiance to the Footscray District Football League. Although, as yet, no senior grade premierships have been attained the Kangaroos have contested five grand finals, three in Division One and two in Division Two. Since 1996 they have competed in Division One, dropping the "YCW" from their name ahead of the 2001 season. The club's reserve team won Division One flags in 2008 and 2011. In recent seasons the Kangaroos have been highly competitive without managing to make the ultimate breakthrough. They qualified for the finals in 2012, finishing fifth, and 2013 when they came third. Then in 2017 they qualified for their fifth ever grand final only to come up short by 3 points at the hands of Deer Park. A year later they dropped down the ladder to sixth, thereby narrowly failing to make the finals.
