The Panthers commenced in 1995 and competed initially in the Eastern Football League's Division Three competition. They later progressed to Division Two and in 1999 contested, and lost, a grand final at that level. It remains their only grand final appearance.

Since 2002 they have competed in Division Four where it would be fair to observe they have generally struggled. Starting in 2008 they endured the ignominy of five consecutive wooden spoons. Moreover, between 2009 and 2012 they failed to achieve a single win. Over the last fiver seasons the Panthers' fortunes have improved marginally but finishing in the bottom half of the premiership ladder and missing out on finals qualification remains the norm. A case in point was a 2018 season in which they managed just half a dozen wins to finish eighth on the ten team premiership ladder.
