Willaston Football Club was formed in 1889 and entered the Gawler Football Association the same year. The club would go on to become one of the most consistently successful in the competition’s history, with its tally of twenty-five senior grade premierships exceeded only by South Gawler, which claimed thirty-two.\n\nThe distinctively nicknamed Donnybrooks have found things a little tougher in the Barossa Light and Gawler Football Association, in which they began to compete in 1987. To date, the club’s senior grade side has contested half a dozen grand finals, winning those of 1988 against Tanunda and 1999 against Angaston.\n\nOf late, the Donnybrooks have been competitive without really threatening to break through for a third BLGFA flag. In 2007 they finished fourth after losing their first semi final clash with Tanunda by 32 points. Then in both 2008 and 2009 they endured mixed fortunes to finish mid-table.
