The Magpies’ peak years were the late 1950s through to the early 1960s when they played off for the senior grade premiership of the Picola and District Football League nine times in sixteen seasons. In 1958 against Picola, 1964 against Yarroweyah, 1965 against Barooga, 1966 against Picola, and 1973 at the expense of Waaia they emerged successful.

By the turn of the century, the Magpies' performances were far less noteworthy. In 2010, they lost all sixteen games by an average of more than 200 points. This was enough for the Victorian Country Football League to deem them noncompetitive, and following a meeting between the club, league and governing body, Wunghnu was placed into voluntary recess in March 2011.
