Casterton
Casterton was, for many years, one of five Victorian member clubs of the Western Border Football League, which also contains five clubs from South Australia. The club was a founder member of the competition in 1964 and reached its first senior grade grand final five years later, when it downed Hamilton by 27 points, 17.13 (115) to 13.10 (88).
The strongest teams in the Cats’ history took the field during the first half of the 1990s. Between 1990 and 1993 they contested every grand final, but only the first of these, against Hamilton, was won. Casterton’s most recent senior grade grand final appearance came in 1999, and resulted in a 12 point loss to South Gambier.
In 2013 Casterton merged with Sandford giving birth to the Casterton Sandford Football Club, nicknamed the Cats, who compete in the Western Border Football League.
