Meringur

The original Meringur Football Club was an outstanding member of the Millewa Football League from the time of the competition’s inception in 1926 until 1987, when it merged with South Merbein. Included in its tally of ten MFL premierships was a league record sequence of six in succession between 1956 and 1961. Meringur’s merger partner South Merbein commenced in the MFL in 1960 and claimed its sole premiership in the competition nine years later. Prior to joining the MFL the club had competed in several different competitions dating back as far as the early 1920s. It had enjoyed particular success in the Mildura and District Football League, contesting a total of a dozen senior grade grand finals for six wins.

Since the merger the ‘Roos have failed to open their premiership account. They qualified for the finals in fourth place in 2008 but were comfortably defeated in the first semi final by Euston Bombers. More recently the club has struggled, going into recess for the entire 2012 season, and slumping to wooden spoons in 2013 and 2015. The next couple of seasons brought gradual improvement: in 2016 the 'Roos finished fifth of sixth before qualifying for the finals the following season for an eventual finishing position of third. In 2018 there was a slight decline in form resulting in a drop of one place on the ladder to fourth.
