Romsey
In terms of senior grade premierships won, the Redbacks’ overall record is outstanding in the extreme, and no other current Riddell District Football League club comes close to matching it.
Between the wars the club had already established itself as far and away the Riddell District Football Association’s most successful member. The first post-war premiership arrived in 1920, which was only the Association’s second season, and by the outbreak of world war two Romsey had accumulated a grand total of seventeen flags, including what remains a competition record five in a row between 1925 and 1929. After the war, success continued, albeit at a less remarkable rate.
After a long period in the doldrums Romsey re-emerged as a league force during the early years of the present century. The club’s twenty-third top tier senior grade premiership was attained in 2003 and in 2009 the Redbacks again reached the grand final only to lose by 14 points to Lancefield. Further flags have since been added in 2011, 2014 and 2015. The 2016 season saw them plummeting down the list to ninth before recovering somewhat in 2017 when they came fifth. This was followed by a nominal decline in 2018 when they came sixth.
