St. Mary's SC
The Saints have been worthy contributors to the Geelong football scene for well over six decades. They were particularly strong during the 1950s and ‘60s, decades which collectively spawned five senior grade flags. More recently they contested three grand finals in the first decade of the present century, downing North Shore by 27 points in the 2004 grand final and Colac by a resounding 99 point margin in the grand final of 2008. The 2003 grand final clash with Bell Park was originally tied, but Bell Park won the replay comfortably.
In 1979 St. Mary’s was one of the Geelong and District Football League’s Division One clubs to secede and form their own new competition, the Geelong Football League. The Saints promptly captured a slice of history by capturing the first ever GFL flag, overcoming North Shore in the grand final by 21 points, 15.13 (103) to 12.10 (82).
Recent seasons have seen the Saints re-emerging as a force and in 2016 they made their first grand final since 2008 only to lose by 6 goals to Leopold. A year later they again featured on grand final day but suffered another reversal, this time at the hands of St. Joseph's by a margin of 63 points.
