Tallangatta
Tallangatta and Bullioh Valley merged in 1977 and the resultant club, named Tallangatta Valley, commenced in the Tallangatta and District Football League the following year, and was a force from the start. Nicknamed the Hoppers, they reached a senior grade grand final in their debut season, losing to Mitta United, before claiming back to back flags with grand final triumphs over Kiewa Sandy Creek in 1979 and Wodonga Demons a year later. A fourth straight grand final appearance followed in 1981 but Kiewa Sandy Creek proved to have the Hoppers’ measure.
Tallangatta Valley missed the finals in each of the ensuing four seasons before finishing third in 1987, fourth in 1988, and first courtesy of a grand final defeat of Holbrook in 1989. The 1990s proved to be the most successful in the club’s existence to date with senior grade premierships in 1994, 1997 and 1998, and losing grand final appearances in 1993 and 1996. Only once in the decade did the Hoppers fail to contest the finals.
Since the turn of the century Tallangatta Valley has played off for the senior grade premiership three times, losing to Barnawartha in 2002, overcoming Beechworth in 2009, and downing Kiewa Sandy Creek after extra time in 2015. The last three seasons have brought sixth, eighth and fourth place finishes (out of twelve clubs).
