Toora
Between the time of its formation, and the outbreak of the second world war, Toora competed in a number of different competitions, achieving premiership success on at least three occasions, although records for the time are incomplete. After the war, in 1946, the club was a founding member of the Alberton Football League where it has competed ever since. So far, senior grade premiership success has only been claimed once, but there have been a number of near misses. The club’s senior team was particularly strong during the 1960s, contesting the finals almost annually, and getting as far as the grand final on three occasions.
Toora’s sole senior grade flag arrived in 1973 after a nerve-wracking 1 point grand final defeat of Meeniyan Dumbalk United. The Magpies had battled their way through to the grand final from the first semi, and few people gave them a chance of upsetting the in form Demons.
The Magpies’ fortunes since 1973 have been predominantly modest, at senior grade level at any rate, although they did manage finals qualification and a commendable fourth place finish in both 2007 and 2018. Overall, however, the club has tended to struggle, and in six of the last ten seasons the 'Pies have finished either second from bottom or dead set last on the premiership ladder.
