West Gambier

West Gambier Football Club was formed in 1938 and entered the Mid South East Football League the same year. The club continued in this competition, which was renamed the South East and Border Football League in 1941, until 1964, when it was a founder member of the Western Border Football League. The highlight of the ‘Roos’ involvement in the SEFA was their feat in claiming three successive senior grade premierships between 1957 and 1959. These indeed proved to be the only flags obtained by the club during its stint in the competition.

West Gambier’s first senior grade WBFL flag was won in 1971 thanks to an 11.11 (77) to 9.11 (65) grand final defeat of East Gambier. The ‘Roos also reached grand finals in 1977 and 1979, but lost to Hamilton Imperials and North Gambier respectively. More recently, following the mass exodus of most of the WBFL's Victorian contingent of clubs, the 'Roos have re-emerged as a force. Between 2010 and 2014 they contested four grand finals for wins in 2010 against Millicent and 2011 against North Gambier, while the play-offs of 2013 and 2014 were lost.

Subsequent seasons saw the 'Roos falling back among the chasing pack and in 2017 they slumped to the wooden spoon. This was followed by a much improved 2018 campaign which brought finals qualification and an ultimate finishing position of fourth.
