Donald Alaster MacDonald (6 June 1859 – 23 November 1932) was an Australian journalist and nature writer. Joined the Melbourne Argus newspaper in 1881, and began writing under the pen name 'Observer'. MacDonald established himself as a cricket and Australia football commentator, revolutionizing cricket reporting by his vivid coverage, also becoming one of the premier football writers of the pre-1914 era.
