Sums up beautifully what it was like being a young lad going to those big games.
Takes me back to my boyhood in Perth.

Comment - I really enjoyed reading this excellent article.
Although I'm from Perth I spent quite a lot of time in Melbourne in the mid-late 70s and remember what a huge name Fred Cook was back then.
One of my footy regrets is that I never went to a VFA game

Comment - Great article.
I too am a great admirer of Bob, surely (along with Robbie Flower) among the best pound-for-pound footballers to have graced the game.
And, similar to Robbie, such a genuine and humble guy.

Haha ....I like it. :)
Andrew, try as I may, the website's not allowing me to put my favourite team and favourite local team on my profile.
Wondering if there may be a little glitch in there.

Grew up in Fremantle. Love to watch great footballers and great games. Not one-eyed. Rating for best club song: (1) GWS (2) Carlton (3) Crows
Arguably the best player of all time: Barrie Robran (SA). Honorable mentions to John Todd (WA) and Robbie Flower (Vic). Three players who could have been anything: Len Clark, Daniel Kerr and Phil Carmen. Most exciting player seen: Nic Naitanui. True greats who are consistently underrated: Graham Moss (Essendon, Claremont) and Bill Walker (Swan Districts). Two players with freakish skills: Doc Baldock and Jezza. Special mentions for freakish: Peter Daicos, Peter Bosustow, Eddie Betts, and John Gerovich (most spectacular high mark ever). Three truly admired former players: Ian Cooper (St Kilda), Jack Clarke (East Fremantle), Ken Hunter (Carlton) ....all lightly framed, all gifted and highly courageous.
