Match Report

North Melbourne has been one of the more inconsistent teams of the competition of 2012. Huge wins have also been combined with dreadful losses, but they made no mistake in disposing of 16th placed Melbourne. The Kangaroos were never headed after jumping out of the blocks to a 33-point in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. North’s Leigh Adams appeared to be in trouble again with a shoulder injury. It comes after Adams hurt the same shoulder in the infamous Chris Judd chicken-wing tackle incident two weeks earlier. The win secured the Roos position in the top eight, but they have to keep winning to remain a chance of playing finals for the first time since 2008. In-form forward Drew Petrie followed up back-to-back seven goal hauls with another four goals, while Robbie Tarrant showed his considerable improvement in 2012 with four of his own. Former Demons skipper Brad Green was playing his 250th game and finished as one of his side's best players, kicking three goals.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brad Scott (NM): Some periods of play at the start of the game and the start of the third [quarter] were quite outstanding. All in all [it was] a good performance, but [there are] still some things that are a little frustrating that we need to continue to work on.

Mark Neeld (Melb): They're pretty slick, the Kangaroos. They move the ball too quick for us to handle at this stage, but that's OK, that's where we're at.

Umpires: McBurney, Armstrong, Harris
