Match Report

Melbourne's "home" Darwin game for 2013 has ended in defeat with Brisbane defeating them by 19 points on Saturday night at Marrara Oval. The Demons started the match brightly and led by nine points at quarter time but a dominant second term for Brisbane saw them open up a two-goal break at half time, which they were able to defend for the remainder of the match.

Tom Rockliff led the way for the Lions, picking up 34 touches, while Jack Redden (26 possessions and two goals) and Matthew Leuenberger (38 hitouts, 19 disposals) were also very good. Melbourne was well served by Jack Viney (21 touches), Colin Sylvia (27 disposals) and Jack Fitzpatrick (four goals).

The win takes Brisbane's win tally for 2013 to seven and keeps them just barely - mathematically at least - in the race for the top eight. Melbourne meanwhile is languishing in 17th place on the ladder with just two wins, ahead only of thw winless Greater Western Sydney.

The Lions will face Port Adelaide and St Kilda over the next fortnight as they try and keep the finals flame flickering, while Melbourne will take on North Melbourne and then the Giants as they search for their third win of 2013.
