Match Report
Collingwood were never really threatened as they cruised to their 10th straight win. Fremantle fought hard at times, but the Magpies just had too much class all over the ground. The Dockers broke their five-year MCG hoodoo when they defeated Richmond in round 11, but the top of the table Magpies were a far tougher prospect. The Magpies got their lead out to 40 points in the second quarter and it threatened to be a dismal day for the Dockers. But Fremantle star Matthew Pavlich was inspirational all day to finish with five goals. Collingwood forward Chris Dawes had come under heavy criticism due to his less than impressive season to date, which had yielded just four goals. He nearly doubled his season tally, kicking three against the Dockers. Tattooed wonder Dane Swan didn’t do his chances of back-to-back Brownlow medals any harm, compiling 43 possessions and kicked two goals in a dominant display. The loss left Fremantle’s finals aspirations in the balance, as they sat 12th with six wins and a poor percentage.

Nathan Buckley (Coll): We're getting exposure to young players, [and] our best players are playing well when the game's up for grabs. But we'd be far from happy if we didn't improve from that
Ross Lyon (Frem): The overall picture [was] we were always on the back foot. But I thought our effort in the third quarter early when they were walking into some easy goals [and we made some] chase downs from behind I think if you had have been a Docker member or fan watching that you think, 'This team hasn't given up'.
