Carlton rebounded from a tough loss to arch-rivals Essendon in round four with a gutsy away victory over Fremantle. It was a low-scoring, dour, scrappy affair, but the tough contest seemed to suit the Blues as they held the upper hand for the majority of the night. Fremantle struggled for run and spark all game until a burst late in the final quarter almost propelled them to an unlikely victory. Dockers' tagger Ryan Crowley limited the influence of Blues skipper Chris Judd, prompting a mid-game Tweet from Gold Coast star Gary Ablett criticizing the Dockers hard man - and imploring the umpires to protect the ball player, Judd. Despite missing key ruckman Aaron Sandilands, the Dockers were able to get the better of the star studded Blues midfield, winning the clearances 38-32. Fremantle young gun Nathan Fyfe struggled after missing a week through a shoulder injury. Carlton midfielder Kade Simpson was best on ground with 35 possessions and a goal, while the run of Stephen Hill proved to be crucial in the Dockers’ late fightback.

COACHES COMMENTS
Ross Lyon (Frem): When we had ascendency and dominated the second quarter, to kick 2.7 against what everybody believes to be a top-four team … you need to put scoreboard pressure on. Then to cap it off with a poor turnover just before half-time and to come out just after half-time with another really terrible turnover, I didn't think it was a true reflection of how far we were in the game.

Brett Ratten (Carl): I thought the third quarter really changed the game. The stoppage work from our boys really got the game back on track for us and gave us a bit of breathing space.
