Match Report

While a number of round 20 games deviated from the script at the weekend, the match between Fremantle and GWS at Subiaco was not one of them. The Giants, coming off their first win of the season against Melbourne last weekend, were blown off the park by a ruthless Dockers outfit for three of the four quarters of this match, with a good second-term effort the only brief respite.

Outscored five goals to two in the second quarter, Fremantle dismantled GWS in the other three, kicking 18 goals to one to run out winners by a whopping 113 points. The win bumped the Dockers' percentage up by 8 points and, with matches against lowly Melbourne and St Kilda to come, it is well with the realms of possibility that they could make up the other six percentage points required to catch third-placed Sydney. Even a top-two finish is not out of the question for the Dockers, with the other top-four sides all facing difficult draws in the last three matches of the home-and-away season.

Fremantle's win was engineered by Nick Suban (26 touches and two goals), Chris Mayne (two goals and 18 disposals) and Michael Barlow (27 possessions, one goal), while Jeremy Cameron (four goals), Callan Ward (29 disposals) and Adam Treloar (23 disposals) did everything they could to keep the Giants in the match.

The Giants' season will finish with matches against Brisbane at the Gabba, Richmond at home and Gold Coast at Carrara, while the Dockers will try and grab a top two place with games in their run to the finals against Melbourne at the MCG, Port Adelaide at Subiaco and St Kilda at Docklands.
