Match Report

In the final match for the round, it was onto the tram to the bay as the Tigers hosted the Eagles at the Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg. These two clubs have had quite the history over the last few years, with 14 games played between them since early 2009. The wins and losses are split right down the middle, with the Eagles winning the previous three games by a combined total of just over 30 goals. The most recent game saw the Eagles win by 50 points at Woodville back in Round 6. The Eagles had one put over them last week by Sturt to hand them their third consecutive loss and coach Michael Godden had no doubt demanded a response.

They began the afternoon's proceedings by kicking 3.3 to the Tigers' 1.2 to take a 13-point lead at quarter-time. Slowly but surely the Eagles worked their way to a commanding position, their second quarter efforts sending them into the half-time break with a 26-point lead after adding a further 4.4 to Glenelg's 2.3. Despite this, the supporters and probably the coach were screaming for more from their Eagles. On the other side of the coin, Glenelg's early spirit was off-set by sloppy play, poor passing and a tendency to give away free kicks right in front of goal. The Eagles would continue to stretch out their advantage when play resumed, this time restricting the Tigers to just 1.2 whilst bagging 4.2 for themselves to take the margin out to 44 points at three quarter-time. The Tigers would go almost score-for-score in the final term, kicking 4.3 to 4.2 in the final term as the Eagles left the bay 43-point winners.

The Eagles named Philip Raymond as their best afield, while the Tigers voted in Matthew Snook as their best on ground.
