Match Report

Hawthorn remains a game clear on top of the ladder after it recorded a regulation win over Brisbane at York Park in Launceston on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks kicked the first goal of the match through Jordan Lewis and were never headed as they opened up an 18-point break at quarter time and increased their lead over the Lions at each subsequent break.

The win represented Hawthorn's 12th victory in succession, equalling a record that the Hawks established in 1961, the year of their first premiership. Ironically, to beat that record, the Hawks will have to break a run of 10 consecutive losses to Geelong at the MCG next Saturday night.

Hawthorn's win was set up by a majestic performance from Sam Mitchell, who had 26 possessions. He received solid suppport from Brad Sewell (27 touches) and and Jarryd Roughead (four goals and 18 disposals).

Though the Lions tried hard throughout, they were never in the hunt against a Hawthorn outfit that was a class above them. Best for the Lions was ex-Demon Brent Moloney, who had 25 touches, while Matthew Leuenberger played a fine ruckman's game, collecting 34 hitouts and 18 possessions. Jack Redden was also very good.

After their big match against Geelong, the Hawks will take on the resurgent Port Adelaide at Football Park in round 16, while Brisbane will play Gold Coast and Richmond in the next two weeks.
