Match Report

North Melbourne capitulated the previous week against struggling Port Adelaide, giving up a 32-point in the last quarter. At times, it appeared the Kangaroos were on the verge of letting a match-winning lead slip for the second week in a row. North were cruising to a percentage boosting victory in the third quarter when they led by 58 points. But the Lions slammed on five goals in 10 minutes to reduce the margin to just 26 at three-quarter time. Brisbane charged proved to be in vain as they eventually lost by 16 points. Although North broke a three-match losing streak, there were still some highly concerning signs for coach Brad Scott. The Lions were deplorable in the first half, and to make matters worse, Brownlow Medalist Simon Black was substituted off with a knee injury. North obliterated the Lions in every area of the game in the opening two quarters, but four goals from Aaron Cornelius and a consistent display from midfielder Jack Redden (25 possessions, two goals) added some respectability to the final result.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brad Scott (NM): I think in all the fundamentals of the game we were very, very good. It's still not a perfect performance by any stretch of the imagination and we've still got some things we need to work on, but the fundamentals of it were pretty good.

Michael Voss (BL): We haven’t played necessarily well at Etihad Stadium (so) to be able to walk away with a second-half performance like that was hugely encouraging. And I'm starting to see some encouraging performances by individual players that are showing that they’re starting to head in the right direction.
