North Melbourne let slip a golden opportunity to consolidate a position in the top eight by conceding a huge lead to West Coast. The Kangaroos were up by 35 points during the second quarter, but the spirited Eagles overhauled the deficit to come away with a morale boosting two-point victory. West Coast jumped back to equal top of the ladder with the win, due to Collingwood's loss the previous night. The match was played at Blundstone Arena in Hobart as part of North Melbourne’s agreement to play home games in Tasmania. Multiple All-Australian ruckman Dean Cox was simply outstanding for West Coast, kicking three goals and bringing down some crucial marks, particularly during the tense final term. Eagles midfielders Daniel Kerr and Matt Priddis were also dominant. North were well served by Robbie Tarrant (four goals) who now looks to be living up to his potential after injuries ruined the early part of his AFL career.

Brad Scott (NM): I thought we were right on top of them for periods of the game. We played some really good footy early and we weren't able to sustain it for long enough.

John Worsfold (WC): They've [Eagles players] got a good understanding about the game plan and strategies that we want to employ and why we change things and [that means] we've got the ability to change within a game. They're fit and hungry. They've got a lot of belief.
