Match Report

Saturday took us to the inner northern suburbs, as the Roosters hosted the Eagles at Prospect Oval. Its been a sad and sorry few weeks for the Eagles, a run of three losses which included two at Woodville, one of them a seven-point loss to South. The Roosters fared slightly better, but their victory against the Tigers would then be followed by consecutive losses. The Eagles late season woes couldn't have come at a worse time, if you cast your minds back to Round 7 the Eagles were a far better outfit and handed the Roosters a 77-point hammering at Oval Avenue. But nowadays, they're just clinging onto a finals berth by a feather. North at this time were seventh on the ladder and just like Centrals, were eyeing off the Eagles' position.

When play commenced, the Eagles immediately got stuck in. They managed to keep the Roosters to just one lousy goal while scoring 4.2 for themselves to take a 20-point lead at quarter-time. But the tables turned quickly in the following term, despite inaccuracy being a problem, the Roosters kept the Eagles to just 1.1 as they drew the deficit back to four points by the half-time break after scoring 3.5. When play resumed, the Roosters would overtake the Eagles on the scoreboard as their accuracy improved. North would kick 4.1 while the Eagles could manage only 2.2, the visitors lead slipped away as the Roosters took a seven-point lead by three quarter-time. The Roosters would then go on to ram through 7.3 in the final quarter to kill the contest off, the Eagles scored just 2.2 as the home side ran out 38-point winners, keeping their own finals aspirations alive.

Jay Shannon was voted best afield for North, while the Eagles named vice-captain Luke Jarrad as their best on ground.
