Match Report

It was out to the western suburbs, as the Eagles faced the Redlegs at the Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval in Woodville. These teams have had quite a few stoushes over the last few years... from Round 3 in 2010 up to Round 8 this season they have met 14 times with the Redlegs taking eight games to the Eagles' six. That sixth win to the Eagles came from that last meeting after they swooped in and nicked a three-point win under the lights of The Parade. Surprisingly, only two wins from that six have come at Oval Avenue which has been a happy hunting ground for the Redlegs, their last trip to the Eagles' nest saw them leave with a 41-point win late last season.

The Redlegs looked like they were going to continue their Woodville-winning ways early on, despite a spot of inaccuracy they would take a quarter-time lead of 25 points after kicking 5.4 to 1.3. But the Eagles slowly started to awaken, outscoring the 'Legs in the second quarter by a point after both sides added three majors each to set the deficit at four goals at half-time. When play resumed, the Eagles caught the Redlegs napping and set about taking over the match, not allowing the visitors to take any further goals for the rest of the game. They kept the Redlegs to four behinds in the third term, kicking 5.4 for themselves to take a one-goal lead at the final change. The Norwood slumber would probably see a few Redleg fans shaking their heads in disbelief, the home side getting away with a 20-point win despite some more inaccuracy as they added 2.5 to three behinds.

The Eagles named state co-captain Luke Jarrad as their best afield, while the Redlegs named Jace Bode as their best.
