From Golden Square, Ricky Nixon found limited opportunities after joining VFL power club Carlton in 1983, and he managed just four senior appearances, and one goal, in three years. The 1986 season found him at St Kilda where he enjoyed a rather more fruitful time. Most commonly described as a half back flanker, he was also more than serviceable across half forward, and manifested a keen eye for goal. In five seasons with the Saints he played 51 games and scored 32 goals, and would probably have remained at the club had there not been a falling out over his contract. As it was, he was drafted by Hawthorn, where he never really established himself, playing just eight games and kicking six goals in 1992-3 before being de-listed. Following his retirement as a footballer he became a noted sports agent.
