Jim Davies was a capable all round footballer with an eye for goal. After playing a single game for West Perth in 1942 he transferred to Swan Districts and played for them in 1943 and 1944. During these three seasons the WANFL operated on an un der age basis only owing to the war. Nevertheless the league recognises all matches played under these arrangements as equivalent to the open age matches played at other times. The same goes for the Sandover Medal, which Jim Davies won in 1944, the same year which saw him skipper Swans as well as win the club’s fairest and best award, the Swan Medal.

After missing the 1945 season Jim Davies resumed with Swans in 1946 and had played a total of 73 games and kicked 67 goals by the time he moved to Victoria and joined Carlton in 1949. His two season stint with the Blues saw him play 16 games and register 1 goal before returning to Western Australia and rounding of his career with 57 games and 69 goals for Claremont from 1951 to 1954.
