Laurie Taylor was a useful forward for West Adelaide, Richmond and Glenelg during a war and injury interrupted eight season top level career which saw him play 73 SANFL and 20 VFL senior league games, plus five interstate matches for South Australia. He made his league debut with West Adelaide in 1939 when he had the satisfaction of playing alongside brothers Don and Johnny Jnr.
Laurie Taylor played for Richmond briefly in 1944 while stationed in Melbourne with the armed forces. He returned to the Tigers for a full season in 1947, which unfortunately meant that he missed the chance of contributing to West Adelaide's first senior flag triumph in 20 years. Renowned as a big occasion player, there is little doubt that he would have been capable of making that contribution a telling one.
Laurie Taylor's staccato league career concluded with Glenelg for whom he played in both 1950 and 1952, alongside brother Johnny.
