After commencing his career in the VFA with Frankston Anthony Harvey played 4 AFL games with St Kilda in 1994. However, it was with Norwood, for whom he played 122 SANFL games and kicked 105 goals between 1995 and 2002. Highly skilled and relentless, Harvey played most of his football as an on-baller. When club captain Garry McIntosh was suspended for the 1997 grand final Anthony Harvey stepped into the breach and skippered the Redlegs to a resounding grand final defeat of arch rivals Port Adelaide. He also produced an exceptional individual performance, kicking 3 goals and being listed high among the team's best players. Following McIntosh's retirement Harvey captained Norwood between 1998 and 2001.

A South Australian interstate representative twice, Harvey was selected in the prestigious Advertiser Team of the Year in 1997-8-9. He also won a Fos Williams Medal as South Australia's best player in a 4 goals defeat of the VFA in Melbourne in 1999.

Anthony is the brother of St Kilda legend and games played record holder Robert Harvey.
