After two seasons with the Bullants he crossed to St Kilda, where his performances earned consistently positive reviews. From 1928 to 1930 and in 1932 he played 48 VFL games and kicked 58 goals for the Saints as well as representing Victoria twice in 1929, including the first ever win by the Vics against Western Australia in Perth. He spent the 1931 season playing alongside his brothers Geoff and Frank for NSWANFL club Newtown, whom he helped to a losing grand final clash with Sydney.
