For much of his VFL career, which ran from 1907 to 1909, Charlie Clymo combined Saturday afternoon games for St Kilda with Wednesday matches for Eaglehawk. A hard working and resourceful ruckman and forward he played 43 VFL games for the Saints and scored 21 goals. He later captain-coached Ballarat Football League club Golden Point to premierships in 1910, 1914 and 1919. The highlight of his non-playing coaching career was overseeing Geelong’s 1931 grand final triumph over Richmond in his only season as a VFL coach.
