One of a long line of high quality aboriginal footballers to adorn West Australian football down the years, Clinton Wolf was a fine ruckman whose highly promising career was derailed by injury. He commenced that career in 1988 with East Fremantle, and went on to play 20 games and boot six goals for the club over the ensuing three seasons. It was after moving to Claremont in 1991, however, that he really began to attract attention. His debut season with the Tigers was capped by participation in a grand final trouncing of Subiaco, a success that was repeated two years later, this time at the expense of West Perth. Wolf’s role as principal ruckman was a major catalyst for both these achievements.

Wolf’s consistently good form was bound to attract attention from AFL clubs, and in 1995 he was a member of Fremantle’s foundation pool of players, and could confidently be expected to have a big impact. Unfortunately for Wolf, however, it was at this point that he encountered the first major injury concerns of his career in the shape of serious knee problems, which ultimately forced him to retire as a player. He managed just four games for Freo, while his Claremont stint also came to an end in 1995 with his having played 52 games and kicked 11 goals. He represented Western Australia once.
