Damian Kitschke was a solidly built (193cm, 101kg) ruckman and forward who knew how to use his body and was strong overhead. He began his senior football career with Sturt and gave the club effective service in 132 SANFL games from 1986 to 1989 and between 1992 and 1994. He booted 162 goals. In 1990-1 he played 29 AFL games and kicked 14 goals for St Kilda without ever really establishing himself as a first choice senior player.
