The son of former St Kilda and Subiaco footballer Brian Sierakowski, David Sierakowski was drafted by St Kilda in 1992 under the father-son rule. After spending the 1993 season playing reserves football he made his senior debut the following year and soon established himself in the team, playing mainly as a defender at this stage of his career. Later, he would demonstrate impressive adaptability, spending time both in the forward lines and as a ruckman. His 93 AFL games for the Saints included the losing grand final of 1997 against Adelaide.

In 2001, in a move which saw Fraser Gehrig move the other way, Brian Sierakowski transferred to West Coast. However, during his three seasons with the Eagles he was frequently beset by injury and managed only 10 appearances. He later returned to his original club Subiaco as an assistant coach.
