An X-ray examination proved last night that Carlton’s dashing wing half forward, Doug Bcasy, had suffered no injury to his spine. Beasy became anxious about recurring pains in his back arising from a knock received on the field some weeks ago. The trouble is muscular, and can be corrected quickly by massage.¹
A big favourite among the Carlton faithful, Doug Beasy played 129 VFL games and booted 122 goals for the club over the course of a nine season career which ran from 1951 to 1959. Playing mainly across the centreline, he was a purposeful and highly consistent performer. He won the Blues' best and fairest award in 1956. In 1960 he transferred to Box Hill as captain-coach. Beasy spent three seasons with the Mustangs, winning a Liston Trophy in 1961 despite the fact that the side managed just three wins and a draw from 22 matches and ended up being relegated.
