Grandfather of Hawthorn favourite Kelvin Moore, Fred Moore commenced his senior football career with Northcote. When the association went into recess because of the Great War he crossed to Fitzroy in the VFL, where he would spend four seasons, playing 48 games and scoring 29 goals. Playing as a follower, he was a member in 1916 of Fitzroy’s winning challenge final team against Carlton, while in the following year’s flag decider he led the Roys’ rucks, but could not prevent a 35 point loss to Collingwood. He rounded off his career back in the VFA, this time with Brunswick, for whom he made a club record 50 consecutive appearances from 1920 to 1922.
