The quintessential tall utility, combining pace with great strength and aerial prowess, Jack Jones gave Essendon sterling and sometimes spectacular service in 175 VFL games between 1946 and 1954. He kicked 156 goals. On the bench when the Dons won the 1946 Grand Final against Melbourne he was at half forward right in the premiership teams of 1949-50 against Carlton and North Melbourne respectively. 

Jones captained the VFL against a Country team in 1951, and was appointed captain-coach of Ovens and Murray Football League side Albury once the VFL phase of his career was over, steering them to a premiership in 1956 and a losing Grand Final the following year.
